Veneers
Dental veneers (sometimes called porcelain veneers or dental porcelain laminates) are custom-made, very thin shells of tooth-coloured materials.
Veneers are designed to cover the front surface of teeth to change their colour, shape, size, or length and give a better appearance and smile and are also providing more strength to the tooth
Dental veneers can be made from porcelain or from resin composite materials. To fabricate a porcelain veneer, the tooth is being prepared, an impression is taken and the veneer is fabricated in the lab. At a second appointment the veneer is cemented, bonded to the prepared tooth. A porcelain veneer has a better resistance to stains and looks very natural. Resin veneers are made in the office, require less tooth removal but are more prone to stains. They require only one dental appointment.
Veneers are used for treatment of:
- Teeth that are discoloured from tetracycline stains, excessive fluoride, large resin fillings, discolorations following a root canal treatment.
- Teeth that are fractured, chipped, very worn down.
- To close spaces between teeth- diastema.
- Teeth that are misaligned, teeth that are very small compared to adjacent teeth.
