Dental Implants
A dental implant is a prosthetic replacement for a missing tooth. It can be used to replace one missing tooth instead of a bridge, to replace several missing teeth or all missing teeth instead of a denture.
A natural tooth has a root that is present in the bone and a crown that is visible in the mouth. An implant device has three parts:
- - the implant itself is the replacement for the root
- - the abutment is the connection between implant and crown
- - the crown is the part visible in the mouth that looks like a natural tooth
Titanium has a special property that is the biological basis of dental implant success called osseointegration. Osseointegration is the process of fusion of bone with the titanium surface locking the implant into jawbone.
Dental implants help patient chew, eat, talk, smile and have a natural look improving self-esteem.
